Heidegger's reflection on freedom has received relatively little attention, far from systematic reconstructions or in-depth analyses of the subject. The present research intends to reopen the dossier and rethink the issue. Heidegger, in fact, engaged in an intense confrontation with the question of freedom in the period from 1927 to 1936, elaborating three fundamental theoretical models. They imply a radical transformation of the traditional conception of ethics, but also subject the usual conceptions of decision, of choice, of the actby which man self-determines his experience, to a profound revision. The framework of the analysis is expanded by exploring what lies beyond the period under consideration, seeking to shed light retrospectively on the genesis of the question of freedom in the years prior to 1927 and then, looking forward, on the developments of the question after 1936, in the phase following the turn.
