»[A]ll research into sound must conclude with silence«: Mit dieser Conclusio aus dem letzten Kapitel von The Soundscape. Our Sonic Environment and the Tuning of the World hat Raymond Murray Schafer (1994, 262) schon früh auf die Bedeutung der Stille für die aktuelle Soundforschung hingewiesen; und es ist wohl kein Zufall, dass er hier – ungeachtet des esoterischen Untertons, der seine Ausführungen zu einer ›music beyond‹ durchzieht – vor allem als Komponist und Musiker spricht.
