(2015) Relocating the history of science, Dordrecht, Springer.
The paper takes a critical look at the present situation of the European university and traces its history over the second half of the twentieth century. The assessment leads to a statement about the mission of academic education, both past and future. The paper concludes with reflections about the task and function of research for the institution of the university.
