Innovation and financial intensity of R&D in Poland as the Polish approach to the knowledge society

Ewa Okoń-Horodyńska

pp. 75-88

So-called "adjustment process", one leading to integration of Poland with European Union, and fulfilling the successive conditions arising from pre-accession agreements are issues which have been the focus of Polish scientists and politicians attention for a few years. However, in the masses of questions concerning defence of interests of Polish industry, trade or agriculture, we forget about the basic problem, i.e. adjusting level of knowledge, institutions developing and storing it up, which finally provide conditions for the production characterised by high concentration of knowledge — a guarantee of high quality. Relationships between Europe and Poland in the fields making possible yielding and accumulating can be cursorily presented as follows. In Polish science we have had (both historically and currently) many achievements of European and world importance. Universities and higher schools in Poland, however not financed sufficiently, educate students on high level, students who easily find jobs all over the world. It is different with modern technologies — but it is assumed that market economy development in democratic society open to international competition will lead to transfer of innovations in technology based on concentrated knowledge. Dissemination of products of high content of knowledge is also a way to knowledge society.
