Look again at Gombrich's diagram (pp. 4–5), which reminds us in turn of the five components, the Ambiguous Element at the centre (the lines), the two Clues to Intentional Perspective (the flowers and the ears) and the two Meanings or Interpretations that result (the vase and the two profiles).
