Veikko Rantala's magisterial survey of constituents and distributive normal forms and their applications leaves little room for criticisms or corrections. I can only hope that his paper will help to familiarize readers with this useful tool in logic and in its applications. It may nervertheless be useful to try to put Rantala's survey in a somewhat wider perspective.
